There is a website called fanfictin.net for people to go and write their own stories using existing material. Godzilla is one of them, and this particular writer on the site, while a bit rough around the edges at times, has done some really nice work.
They've written one full length Godzilla 2014 retelling where (SPOILERS) Joe Brody survived and they extended the fights pretty well between Godzilla and the MUTOs. Apparently, despite the fact that this retelling was well received by the Godzilla community on the site, they thought that first retelling wasn't good enough so now they're doing another one with more detail and I have to say that so far the dialogue and scene set ups are both pretty much exact to the movie.
It's quite impressive actually.
