THIS MONTH IN GODZILLA AND KAIJU HISTORY(OCTOBER)6,814 Views11 RepliesAdd A Reply
Before I get into this months history notes for October, I must give this months entire entry credit to GMan, with his resources and vast knowledge into all things Kaiju related. He is the full man credited to all of this. Since this month doesn't hold a vast significance to Godzilla and Toho as a whole, GMan went in a very interesting direction with information depicting other significant moments in Kaiju history as a whole. Thank you again GMan!
Oct 1 - UltraSeven Anniversary -
One of the most highly acclaimed series from Tsuburaya. It is the sequel to the original Ultraman and the third series in the Ultraman franchise. It celebrates its 50 year anniversary this October.
Oct 9 - Teruyoshi Nakano’s Birthday -
Another big one. Nakano was Eiji Tsuburaya's successor to the Godzilla series after his death. He was Tsuburaya's assistant director for special effects for nearly the entire Showa Godzilla series as well as well as Atragon, Frankenstein Conquers the World, King Kong Escapes and many more. After Tsuburaya's death, Nakano directed the special effects for the final five Showa Godzilla films and the first Heisei movie--The Return of Godzilla. He'll be 82.
Oct 2 - Ultraman Nexus Anniversary
A staple of the Ultraman franchise, Nexus is the series sequel to the highly acclaimed movie Ultraman: The Next. Part of the Ultra-N Project, launched to reinvigorate interest in the franchise, Nexus as ultimately cut short due to a bad time slot. The series was intended for an older audience, but was poorly placed in a children's time slot where it didn't draw many viewers. The fan favorite series will turn 13 years old.
Oct 2 - Shinji Nishikawa's Birthday
Godzilla artist, friend of Matt Frank and concept creator for Kiryu, Godzilla Junior, the Super X-III and many, many more. He turns 53.
Oct 5 - UltraSeven X Anniversary
Arguably the most adult oriented Ultra series. It aired on prime time for older audiences to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original UltraSeven. No this show hits the 10th anniversary milestone.
Oct 5 - Go! Godman Anniversary -
Toho special effects, television series that includes guest appearances from multiple Toho monsters, such as Gorosaurus, Gabera and the Gargantuas. The superhero series turns 45.
Oct 6 - Godzilla Island Anniversary -
Television series that aired three minute episodes. Notable for using toys to portray all of the monsters. It turns 20 years old.
Oct 11 - Shin Godzilla American Release Anniversary
Oct 14 - Varan The Unbelievable Anniversary
Oct 21 - Ken Watanabe’s Birthday
Oct 22 - Susumu Kurobe’s Birthday -
Kurobe is best known as Shin Hayata--The member of the Science Patrol that could transform in to the original Ultraman! Kurobe's also had minor roles and cameos in Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster, Son of Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla x Megaguirus and many more. He was last seen in the film Ultraman Saga, reprising the role of Ultraman. He turns 78.
Oct 27 - Masanobu Takashima’s Birthday -
Brother of Masahiro Takashima and son of veteran Godzilla actor Tadao Takashima (King Kong vs. Godzilla, Son of Godzilla). He played Major Maj. Sho Kuroki in Godzilla vs. Biollante. He turns 51.
Oct 28 - Michael Dougherty’s Birthday
Oct 29 - Masahiro Takashima’s Birthday -
Brother of Masanobu Takashima and son of veteran Godzilla actor Tadao Takashima (King Kong vs. Godzilla, Son of Godzilla). He played the lead character in Gunhed, Kazuma Aoki in Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II and took over his brother's part of Sho Kuroki in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. He turns 52.
I told you incorrectly on Nakano's birthday. It's actually the 5th.
well now I cant trust you with anything! your credibility just went out the window. haha no problem Gman ill correct it.
Into exile I go!
Good stuff- that pic is adorable!
One year ago today I was walking out of theaters after seeing Shin Godzilla. The movie has only improved with repeat viewings. Glad I got to experience it in theaters four times.
same here. After watching that movie I couldn't wait to hear news of a sequel! After the last frame of that movie I felt like there needed to be answers in a sequel. Glad I was able to watch a legit Toho Godzilla movie in theaters!
BIG Happy 51 years to Masanobu Takashima who played the memorable and commendable Major Sho Kuroki in Godzilla vs. Biollante. I always enjoyed his standout presence in that film. He successfully carried on his dad's legacy who stared in King Kong vs. Godzilla, Son of Godzilla and Frankenstein Conquers the World.
I wish he had reprised his role as Kuroki in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. I've seen him in other movies as well and he's just stellar.
Watching that movie as a kid I loved his calm collect acting about the film. Even when his friend is killed right before his eyes by Godzilla, he still keeps it pretty cool.
And now Happy 52 to Masanobu's brother, Masahiro Takashima. After his role in Gunhed he went on to follow in his brother's and father's footsteps. He played Kasuma Aoki in Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II and then played his brother's role, Sho Kuroki, in Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. He's a year and two days older than his brother, Masanobu.
Both are the sons of Tadao Takashima who starred in both King Kong vs. Godzilla and Son of Godzilla. The whole family:
That pretty much wraps October. Looking forward to November--Which includes the big date.
