Can Ghidorah fly in the monsterverse?

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-14-2019 10:51 AMI know we have seen Ghidorah fly in the promo material, in shots from the trailers in things but then this quote came out "the stratosphere would be torn open by an otherworldly tempest of thunder and lightning [Earth's] sky has never seen." which makes me think maybe the shots of him in flight may be only seen in visions of a possible future where Ghidorah gains the ability of flight or near the end of the movie when he might gain the power of flight for the big final battle with Godzilla since it seems like if he flies enough the world just ends due to him flying and then there is this image (the image I am using for this topic) where he is seen opening up his wings as if he is about to take flight, what if this is from the final battle in the movie and this is him about to attempt to fly for the first time?

MemberBaragonMar-14-2019 8:40 PMNah, I don't think so. Ghidorah have his wings from the get go. Kind of weird if it can't use if for flying until the very end of the movie.

MemberRodanMar-14-2019 8:55 PMGhidorah has wings for a reason. To fly. But good theory though!

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-15-2019 12:58 AMbut what if his gravity manipulation is an important aspect of his flight in the monsterverse, due to his sheer size his wings can't lift him on the earth alone and he needs to build up power or energy before he can use powers like his gravity beams to help him fly on earth, that image would be him roaring in victory as he achieves enough power to fly and summoning yellow lightning gravity beams to aid him in his flight, it just seemed strange to me that the quote talks about ghidorahs flight as like a prophecy, like it comes off as "if ghidorah flies then the world ends" but maybe it's just me, I dunno just a thought I had

MemberTitanosaurusMar-15-2019 4:42 AMI think it's just flowery prophecy talk to hype up Ghidorah should he ever make a return.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-15-2019 8:16 AMyou're probably right Gman, I just saw it and thought it was interesting and maybe it could be hinting at the possibility that a lot of the movie would build up to Ghidorahs first flight and how it is a really big deal when he finally does it

MemberBaragonMar-15-2019 10:11 AMOf course he can fly. It's like Giving Rodan wings, but saying that he can't fly with them. Also, if you say that he doesn't have the ability to fly, then how the hell is he going to go from Antarctica to Washington DC or Boston? (Apparently Boston was shown in the first trailer) Sure, he may swim, but we also see the silhouette of Ghidorah in this shot. So unfortunately, your theory is false. (Unless it's shown in some sort of Backflash sequence. If that's what you're talking about, then pay NO attention to what I said before.)

MemberBaragonMar-15-2019 10:47 AMHe's fighting Rodan in the TV spot. Clearly it takes place before the final battle. Plus Ghidorah's in Antarctica, so he can't just swim unnoticed. So, no. He has the power to fly already. Sorry.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-15-2019 11:37 AMGojiFanPat I think the scene with his silhouette over washington DC is just a vision of a future where Ghidorah isn't defeated and begins his destruction of the world, I don't think it's actually a scene that takes place during the events of the movie (it could be but I don't think so) but again also I'd just like to point out I'm not saying he can't fly I was just asking if he could because it didn't seem like he could from the quote that seemed to imply that he hasn't flown yet or everything would be destroyed, as for the Rodan vs Ghidorah fight, I thought that would maybe be in the end of the movie during the big climax or maybe even in the same vision of a future where Ghidorah destroys washington (btw I really hope the washington DC scene is really in the movie and it's not just a vision because it looks awesome but usually when something that big is in a movie trailer it turns out to be either a flashback or a vision)
you and MDK 2 (MinecraftDinoKaiju) are right tho, flying would be the most sensible way for him to travel from Antarctica so that's a really good point

AdminGodzillaMar-15-2019 11:59 AMY'know, what the trailers are revealing aside, I like SaibaShinrei's idea of saving King Ghidorah's flight for a climactic moment. It's a cool idea from a dramatic standpoint and it worked really well in GMK.
But I'm equally as satisfied with King Ghidorah just being King Ghidorah and taking off from the get-go.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-15-2019 12:18 PMthank you G. H. (Gman) I also thought that since the monsterverse is trying to be more realistic and Ghidorah is the largest of the flying monsters perhaps his flight would only be partially achieved through wing power with the rest would be achieved through the use of his gravity beams allowing him to achieve a low gravity state but again, it's more likely he will be more of a traditional Ghidorah
TheGMan123
MemberTitanosaurusMar-15-2019 2:40 PMI mean, if you give something wings, you expect it to fly.
Honestly, if they were give him any kind of major unexpected moment, it'd be having legitimate gravity manipulation that's completely out-there compared to the otherwise grounded naturalistic take the Titans have going for them.
SaibaShinrei
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-15-2019 3:04 PMoh no don't get me wrong I do expect him to be able to fly but being an alien I would think that maybe his planet has a weaker gravitational pull and so he is capable of flying purely on wing power alone on his home world but on earth he needs a little help from his gravity beams (I always took the gravity beams as being beams of intense super high gravity rather than lightning, like he is zapping things causing them to be crushed by massively high gravity or he could invert them and put objects into zero gravity making them levitate, I do think he has done that once or twice in the past, maybe he did it as kaiser ghidorah or monster x tho not sure, I do know that space godzilla can do the same thing because he was originally meant to be ghidorah and they changed the character but let space godzilla keep the gravity beams, I think I saw that on the KaijuWiki youtube channel)
though maybe that's just how I personally interpret King Ghidorah

MemberTitanosaurusMar-15-2019 5:03 PMI mean, he DID fly.
It just wasn't by his own will :P

MemberTitanosaurusMar-15-2019 5:08 PMYou know, I doubt Kaizer Ghidorah could even fly with those small wings.
Godzilla... Truly a God incarnate.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-15-2019 5:17 PMUltrazero80 if he could it would likely be through the use of gravity manipulation to put himself in a low gravity state, kinda like when monster X slowly floats down to the ground
