Why MechaGodzilla looks like a robot Godzilla

MemberGiganApr-03-2021 11:39 PMI created this topic based on a few comments by @Gman. It seemed really weird to me why build a Giant robot that looks like Godzilla and others realized this too. Then I realized it’s not that weird if you think about it. MG is made for fighting titans. The best thing that keeps Titans at bay is Goji. And Goji is built for fighting. So building a robot that can have all the strengths of Goji and additional ones isn’t as weird as I thought is was.

MemberTitanosaurusApr-04-2021 1:36 AMBut I feel like they could have made literally anything else though? I mean you have some of the most advanced Technology and you choose to replicate Godzilla and not something like a Yeager or a Metal Gear? I know these are animals but surely they could spot the difference between the real Goji and a robot slightly resembling him. If anything it would have actually made more sense to base it of Ghidorah as it was also briefly an Alpha and seeing as it's head is used for the controls.
Also personally, my main problem isn't that MG looks like Godzilla, it's that they made the step from highly advanced aircraft in the previous film to a giant ass fighting robot in the span of about a year, let alone it being constructed in that time in secret.

MemberGiganApr-04-2021 6:44 AMI liked how Mecha-Godzilla brought his arms and hands up like they were his extra heads (Ghidorah was definitely in control of this guy)

MemberTitanosaurusApr-04-2021 11:26 AMAh, I see. I did not know that, my bad. My points do still stand for me at least as I don't think they should have brought in MG this early on the Monsterverse.
Then again, I personally don't think MG was originally ment to be in this movie. Many of the scenes and characters felt forced and unnecessary to the overall plot of the movie, making me believe it wasn't part of the original story (maybe these could have been part of the reshoots way back?). The reason why I think they included him was because this could likely be the last Monsterverse movie and they wanted to complete the Toho Big 5 (Also, they already had the license because of RP1). This might also be why the time jump was added, to make MG a bit more believable in this universe, but at the end of the day these are all just speculations.

AdminGodzillaApr-04-2021 11:31 AMIt's still hilarious that a "sinister" company had the time and money to sculpt out a Godzilla head for their big creation and make other adjustments so it looks like Godzilla.
At least Kiryu was built as an armor over Godzilla's bones, so they had no choice but to make it look like Godzilla. This skews closer to the pointlessness of the Heisei MechaGodzilla.

AdminGodzillaApr-04-2021 12:04 PMAlso, if Godzilla vs. Kong is 5 years after King of the Monsters, Madison sure does age slowly...

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-05-2021 7:13 PMHonestly I kinda hated mecha Godzilla’s design in this movie. It’s probably his worst iteration yet. It even looks better in ready player one. After seeing the concept art and then seeing this I’m disappointed, it doesn’t look like Godzilla it just looks like a stereo typical robot with a tail. And the way it moves using thrusters looks like they tried to rip it off from pacific rim but failed miserably because it moves way to fast for its size. I think it would of been way cooler if they made it like the original mecha Godzilla where it looks like Godzilla but then is revealed to be a robot after the skin is damaged. Overall they screwed up the design in this movie IMO and should’ve made it look more like kiryu or give it a whole new design. It’s looks like it belongs in an animated tv show not a big screen movie.

if you think that’s the worst how do you feel about MechaGodzilla City and Anime MechaGodzilla

AdminGodzillaApr-05-2021 7:27 PMHonestly I think both the 2021 MechaGodzilla and Anime MechaGodzilla are better than Ready Play One's. That one is incredibly generic.
I'll admit though, the 1975 MechaGodzilla and Kiryu still have the best designs.

MemberGiganApr-05-2021 7:39 PMI liked Kiryu's design over Showa and Heisei but I really liked Ready Player One and MonsterVerse designs to mechagodzilla

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-06-2021 12:47 PMThe movie does say near the beginning it has been 3 years since the last titan sighting

MemberAnguirusApr-08-2021 1:42 PMI mean, I'd say 2021 is my favorite incarnation, but that might be because I'm biased cause I saw it in IMAX

MemberAnguirusApr-13-2021 7:48 AMWell, APEX wanted something to compete with Godzilla. Something that wasn't just his equal, but something superior to him. What better way to compete with Godzilla, then to make a double of him, a more advanced Godzilla that they can control (or so they thought).
