MemberAnguirusAug-25-2022 9:27 AMDisney is now trying to cash in on the success of King Kong and the MonsterVerse...
Cool Godzilla
MemberGiganAug-26-2022 4:17 AMThis in my opinion is a bad thing, there's a chance that Disney could make a king kong movie better than the monsterverse one. Then, we can say goodbye to the monsterverse as Disney stole the idea and replacing MV with it's amazing hit. ( Maybe, there's a chance it is worse than the MV king kong movie.)

MemberAnguirusAug-26-2022 7:15 AMConsidering the really bad track record of the writers and producers that are said to be involved with this Disney+ series, chances are that it won't be better. The problem is that if it's bad it might end up negatively impacting the MonsterVerse, since some people may think that the two are connected.
Regardless, it feels like Disney is trying to leech of the success of the MonsterVerse movies (because it's not like they own dozens of profitable franchises already). The fact that they're exploiting a legal loop hole in order to make it and the fact that they announced it during the production of the next MonsterVerse movie and the Skull Island animated series really seems to suggest that. Heck, considering the fact that Godzilla vs Kong beat several Disney owned movies last year, I wouldn't be shocked if this is Disney attempting to undermine the MonsterVerse, as a petty attempt to stomp out the competition. I mean this is a company who, just recently, bought out an animation studio that they were in competition with, just so they could shut it down and claim it's most financially successful franchise for themselves.

AdminGodzillaAug-26-2022 7:32 AMCool Godzilla,
The idea that Disney's Kong potentially being good is a "bad thing" baffles me. Why would any of us be mad about a good giant monster movie/series?

MemberAnguirusAug-26-2022 8:45 AMThe quality of the product isn't really the issue (unless it turns out to be really bad, which given the track record of some of the producers and writers involved, is possible), the bigger issue is having two Kong series that are in competition with each other. It might result in the two being in constant conflict, which could end up backfiring on both, not to mention it could end up causing unnecessary drama. The MonsterVerse and the Reiwa series being made at the same time caused a lot of division between the Godzilla fandom, I would hate to see the same thing happen with Kong.

MemberAnguirusAug-26-2022 9:54 AMGodzilla vs Kong did beat out several of their movies last year.

MemberAnguirusAug-26-2022 11:06 AMwell I suppose its only a matter of time now before the mouse get hold of godzilla to.

MemberAnguirusAug-26-2022 11:32 AMThankfully Disney can't exploit any legal loop hole to get Godzilla.

MemberAnguirusAug-26-2022 9:08 PMSo after looking in to it more, it appears that this is an attempt to revive the canceled CW series which was based around the "King Kong of Skull Island" book series by Joe DeVito (who actually tried to sue Legendary and Warner Bros. in 2016, claiming that he owned the concept of Skull Island and that Warner Bros. "stole" his creation).
Not sure how this series will turn out. I want to stay somewhat optimistic, but given the fact that it's an attempt to revive a show that was in development hell, as well as the track record of some of the producers and writers involved, Disney's shady business practices in recent years, and DeVito's past attempt to screw over the MonsterVerse, I'm kind of concerned...
At least it can't be any worse than the animated "Kong: King of the Apes" series...right?

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-26-2022 9:52 PMHonestly if disney wants an IP to like compete with other companies and market to kids and adults, and have cool monsters.
Pokemon.

MemberGiganAug-27-2022 12:38 AMNO! Disney needs to stay away from Pokemon and Godzilla! They already took away Alien and Predator!

MemberAnguirusAug-27-2022 7:01 AMConsidering how protective Nintendo is with their properties, I don't think that Disney will ever get close to Pokemon.
Kthen
MemberMothra LarvaeAug-27-2022 10:34 AMExcept for the fact nintendo doesnt own pokemon, gamefreak does. Plus disney distributes the pokemon anime on disney xd already.
SasquaDash
MemberAnguirusAug-27-2022 10:56 AMNintendo partially owns Pokémon. The copyright for the series is owned by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. The Pokémon Company was established by the three companies through a joint investment.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-27-2022 11:35 AMIm just not very opposed to it.
Id love for a pokemon land in a disney park

MemberBaragonAug-27-2022 11:47 AMWell GvK only made 468 million + everyone was rooting for godzilla watching the movie to wish it wins so i do not get how they are CASHING in since King Kong no longer has the clout of "funny monke beats godzilla"
Also why are you so mad about competition? All of the times massive companies clashed in competition it brought out amazing results for both. Look at XBOX and Playstation which are consoles but still yet they became greater and greater with better exclusives or better performance.
However there may be backfiring as you said but the thing is, the first one to have their plans backfire will be the loser since the other one can just avoid and learn from what the loser did.
Xenotaris,
Disney has not done anything yet, hulu is doing the crap now.
Also you still have your crappy MV left if you hate Disney's King Kong

MemberBaragonAug-27-2022 12:00 PMI would not call monsteverse a success either, box office mojo has a list of the highest grossing movies of 2021, MV's main rival is Marvel which currently has many movies ahead of GvK and because they have many movies some budgets may be lower.
Nascar
MemberBaragonAug-27-2022 12:04 PMWell mojo has them atleast ON DOMESTIC

MemberAnguirusAug-27-2022 12:06 PMThere are plans for Pokémon theme attractions and rides at Universal Studios Japan, which could potentially expand to the US parks in the future (similar to Super Nintendo World).
I'm not really mad at the potential competition, I'm just really confused and a bit worried for how it might affect the character's future.

MemberMothra LarvaeAug-27-2022 12:14 PMAlso MV is relatively successful, maybe not as other more popular IPs but it made profit
Nascar
MemberBaragonAug-27-2022 12:19 PMIm gonna be fair with you guys, i hate Disney with all my heart but recently i am starting to feel like MV is like JW, its newer and newer fans like it but it split the community and ruined it due to the toxicity i see. Basically all i see is JWD and MV fans use the characters from the respective franchises to make mindless battles.
Ofc with the villain that is killed of due to the power of more kaiju (like mothra and godzilla vs king ghidorah) is the strongest.
Even though indominus rex is impractical as an animal AND I WILL NOT EXPLAIN HERE CAUSE IT VIOLATES THE RULES CAUSE ITS GOING OFF TOPIC

MemberGiganSep-21-2022 4:30 PMIf Disney goes the Prey route with Kong, I'm all for it. And please, you all know Prey was a banger movie.

MemberGiganSep-21-2022 8:34 PMAs an Alien and Predator fan I'm a little afraid to watch Prey
Also Nascar, Disney own 60% of Hulu

AdminGodzillaSep-21-2022 10:00 PMPrey is one of my favorite movies of the year. It's nice to have an outstanding Predator movie again.

MemberGiganSep-22-2022 6:25 AMIf Prey turns out terrible I'm blaming you two, I already dislike the new predator design, it looks more like a sangheli than a yaut'ja.
