Two new Kong: Skull Island set videos have been shared online! This time, the videos show a squad of what look to be Bell UH-1 Iroquois military helicopters, which were first introduced in the late 50's (1959). This might suggest that part of, if not all of Kong: Skull Island takes place sometime in the late 1950s- early 1960s. The choppers are being tailed by a fourth helicopter which is used for filming the flight sequences. Unfortunately past the footage of the helicopters flying overhead, there isn't really much else this can tell us about the film's plot.
Since Legendary have announced that Kong: Skull Island will tie into the third Godzilla sequel it's possible the squad of helicopters could belong to the Monarch organization - the secret group present in Gareth Edwards' Godzilla (2014). This would also suggest a plausible backstory for Kong's origins - which this film is apparently setting out to do. Our assumption is that Kong's species existed millions of years ago, like the Godzilla species, in a time when the Earth was very radioactive. It's possible Skull Island has preserved this species, along with other massive creatures. If Legendary, Universal and Warner Brothers are trying to keep the continuity between both franchises in light of their recent partnership, this would be and likely is going to be the reasoning behind Kong's existence.
