Here's my theory. The skullcrawlers that were chasing the humans were in fact juveniles and possibly live underground for protection against other predators. The fully grown skullcrawlers live in the water, that's why they show huge ones coming out of the water. Kong is gonna probably face a fully grown skullcrawler in the movie.

Is it possible that giant skullcrawler skeleton is the result of the island's name? I believe a much larger skullcrawler will face Kong towards the end of the film. It would make sense if it were much larger than Kong as well, as this would showcase Kong's prowess in combat and show that "size isn't everything", proving him to be a worthy adversary of Godzilla's in 2020.

I still see 2 things in the black lit picture.

 Could the circled serpent on the right be part of Humbaba or was Humbaba declared Kong already? They're multiple Kong Skeletons but there's only one Humbaba. Am I correct about that? I read somewhere that Humbaba has serpents attached to him. Perhaps the Skullcrawlers are Humbabas servents.

Here's a  snippet from Wiki. It isn't the writing from where I first heard about it though. - "he had the paws of a lion and a body covered in thorny scales; his feet had the claws of a vulture, and on his head were the horns of a wild bull; his tail and phallus each ended in a snake's head."

Is Humbaba protecting the forest where the God Kong lives? The trailer said Kong is King around here.

Are Samual Jackson and Tom Hiddleston Gilagmash and Enkidu setting out into the cedar forest and capturing Humbaba? Could Kong kill King Humbaba to get declared King of the entire area? Perhaps Kong is King only on a certain part of the island. I think there's another island close to the main island. The island on the bottom left. It says Apex Primate.

The Skullcrawlers appear to at least partially be acting as a stand-in for the Deathrunners from Kong: King of Skull Island, being a race of killer reptilian creatures that plague the island and are potentially responsible for wiping out Kong's species. I'm willing to bet that there is a giant Skullcrawler, possibly a matriarch like Gaw from the novel, that leads them and battles Kong at the end of the film.

Let us not forget that Kong is a juvenile in this film. Since it takes place in the 70's, Kong will have time to grow so he can fight Godzilla is 2020. Looking at the 2 Kong skeletons we see the cast walking along them. They don't look like 300 foot apes. Perhaps, those are the remnants of Kong's siblings? But still, the idea that the Skullrunners are infants seems reasonable. All we can really tell about these things, aside from being the primary reason Kong is the last of his kind, is that they nest underground, are very fast and have exposed skulls. They are going to be a tough fight for Kong. I just hope we get to see Kong use his famous finisher, ripping the jaws of his enemy open (like he did to the t-rex). Although, that would probably be saved for the final fight.

I was thinking the biggest Skullcrawler is maybe the one in the water shown in the trailer and I think it might be swatted away by Kong. I can imagine 20 Skullcrawlers all over Kong. It seems like a rough time but I bet the humans do a great deal helping. I don't see a giant Skullcrawler as big as a threat compared to 6 or 8 small ones. Like Chris said, 6 or 8 small ones trying to get into the inside of the Kongs body. I would think his face would be okay but I don't know about his butt. A giant one is anti-climatic. For me the movie needs a Humbaba Kaiju climax. Kong might die from Buttcrawlers if the finale is 20 crawlers and a big one.

I'm imagining Humbaba looking like King Caeser with horns, talons and snakes.

Someone from Spacebattles pointed it out to me. Notice that the Skull Crawlers look like lizards, except with only two limbs instead of four. They theorized that these guys are an updated version of the Two-Legged Lizard seen in the original 1933 film.

I like the mention of Humbaba as well and perhaps the Skullcrawlers are merely an issue for the Humans and not Kong. Perhaps Humbaba is the real threat to Kong and the end of the film sees him taking the thrown of the entire island. From the description you shared, it does sound a lot like King Caeser.

Although, I have to disagree that seeing one giant Skullcrawler would be anti-climactic. I fully expect we'll see a giant one near the end of the film, as others have pointed out the one coming out of the water is much larger than the ones seen scurrying about in the bone yard. 

I had a crazy thought come into my head recently too... That what if these Skullcrawlers, when fully matured end up being... GHIDORAH? Like Kong's species, in this film perhaps Kong, with the aid of the Humans kill off most of the Skullcrawler population, leaving one alive. The mention of tadpoles got me thinking as well, it's possible as they mature, they go through various stages of development, with the final form being a massive, three-headed dragon? 

It's not that far fetched. It would certainly lead into Godzilla 2 quite nicely.

I always thought they were gonna be water creatures. That Kong would fight in the water.

I still think Humbaba is the final fight. I read on the internet that Jordan Vogt-Roberts doesn't wait a hour to get into the action. If the runtime is longer then Godzillas(2:03), maybe there's hope.

I don't know but perhaps they encounter Kong 40 minutes into the film. They find John C Reilly at 70 minutes and journey into the island 93 minutes in. The water skullcrawler at 120 minutes and the rest Humbaba? I really want a glorious fight.

I think people are interpreting the "Humbaba" passage on the teaser poster a bit too literally. The passage is probably there for effect, maybe to metaphorically refer to some kaiju, possibly even Kong himself, and provide some ominous atmosphere and mystery to the poster. I don't think it is in any way implying that the villain in the film is literally the demon Humbaba from The Epic of Gilgamesh. It's very similar to Oppenheimer's quote appearing in the G14 teaser trailer. A lot of people took it to literally mean that Godzilla's enemy in the film would be that giant tardigrade creature and that it would be named "Vishnu," when that wasn't at all the case, as the quote was merely for effect. There certainly could be some as-of-yet unrevealed monster that faces Kong in the climax, but I'm not tempted to believe it will actually be named Humbaba.

I'm pretty confident in my "updated Two-Legged Lizard" theory. What do you guys think of it?

Make some noise in this joint! I just want a Kaiju battle. It makes me very pleased and I would buy a ticket. "His mouth is fire; his roar the floodwater; his breath is death. Enlil made him guardian of the Cedar Forest, To frighten off the mortal who would venture there. BUT WHO WOULD VENTURE THERE?" A big Skullcrawler is one dimensioned. It can get smacked around. How big do you guys think it could get? The serpent creature in the black light picture has to be something. I hope I don't have pareidolia! I don't think it should be Kong. I do think a kaiju with a snake tail is bit out there. I don't take the Humbaba creature literally. I could though. I find it very interesting.

I bought a keyboard from Goodwill an hour ago. It appears to have been very lightly used by the previous owner. It's like new. I Lysol wiped it. I love it. 3.99$.

A Kaiju that has a snake for a phallus is probably to sexual. The snake tail seems a bit out there as well in my opinion but I can go with it. I could be way off on Humbaba thing. Humbaba was the guardian of the Cedar Forest, where the gods lived, by the will of the god Enlil, who assigned [Humbaba] as a terror to human beings. Humbaba and Kong were/could be on the same team and he might be only trouble to humans. I also think that maybe Humbaba is letting Skullcrawlers wreck havoc on the island but why? I have thoughts but I will follow along with you guys and won't potentially spoil anything. I might be over-estimating their population and infestation but what's the going on with the island and where are the Gods? Are they Kaiju or Human Gods? Sally Hawkins said Godzilla is a God. I forgot what other Kaiju are considered Gods but why aren't they there? Perhaps it's true that it's similar to Rivendell and Kaiju Gods hold councils there. Maybe the Gidorah invasion has already captured it and Humbaba is Saruman. I will request Kong: King of Skull Island from the library. It probably holds many answers to my many questions. I could be taking passage on the teaser poster a bit too literally but here's another one that keeps me going. Potential Spoiler - when Gilgamesh and Enkidu attack. Even so, the friends only triumph because the sun god Shamash sends down 13 winds, which strike Humbaba from all directions and immobilize him. Perhaps a hurricane will be in play. The Poster says beyond supercell.

There's also cutting down the most majestic tree in the Cedar Forest, and killing the Bull of Heaven. That ox animal in the trailer could be a metaphor to the bull. Humbaba could be a minor creature in the film action wise. He might die early on in the film by Hiddleston. Maybe the killing of Humbaba is what got Miss Ishtar Larson so hot for Gilgamesh Hiddleston to begin with. It could be Kong and Hiddleston or Sam Jackson teaming up against Humbaba and Larson gets the hots for Kong. lol

"urges Utanapishtim to tell Gilgamesh about the plant that makes you young again." - Is finding medicine stuff in the film? I only saw a early synopsis that mentioned it. 

Or they could be male worker Drones & the female is quite a bit larger. Since this part of the Godzilla universe & they are all Kaiju monsters that feed off Radiation. They may have fed off the Kongs while they were hibernating, like parasites much like the mutos we see in Godzilla. Once Kong defeats the skull crawlers , he will go into Hibernation and absorb radiation & grow to the size of Godzilla, for their battle.
