G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaSep-03-2014 7:42 PMIn the spirit of keeping the forum alive I've decided to add to the plethora of games and contests that have become so popular around here. This is a little different though.
RULES:
The Godzilla (and related movies) Soundtrack Challenge is a game where you listen to a 30 second clip from any given Godzilla movie and answer a select number of the following questions:
-
WHAT MOVIE IS THE TRACK FROM? - The question is fairly simple. Type what movie you think the clip is from. This question will likely be attached to every clip.
-
WHAT COMPOSER DID THE PIECE? - If you got what track the movie is from, you'll likely get this. Type who you think the composer is. (Edit as of noon, 9/4: If there are multiple composers for the film you MUST at least guess which of the composers did the piece. Naming all of them will not get you a point.)
-
WHAT SCENE IS IT FROM? - Explain the scene from which the track happens. Although since some scores get repetitive this question will not be present for every clip.
-
WHOSE THEME IS IT? - If this question is asked, write down whatever monster/character/military/weapon's theme it is.
Each question is worth one point, unless stated otherwise. Keep in mind, not all of these questions will be asked for each clip, so make sure you read the questions before answering to the newest clip. Also remember some of these clips will not be from Godzilla movies, but films from the same creators/genre.
The person who first answers the questions correctly gets points. If a member only gets some of the answers right, the next member to reply has a chance to earn points from the questions the previous poster got wrong. If all of the questions are not correctly answered 24 hours after the clip is posted no one will get points for the unanswered/incorrectly answered question(s). At that point the next clip will be posted and a new round will begin.
Multiple answers for a single question in a member's post will be ignored completely. If you create a latter post with different answers for the same round your previous answers will be ignored in favor of your new ones.
Test rule: AFTER A MEMBER GETS AN ANSWER RIGHT, THEY SIT OUT THE NEXT ROUND AS TO NOT MONOPOLIZE THE GAME. IF MULTIPLE MEMBERS GET THE ANSWERS TO A SINGLE ROUND EVERYONE WHO CORRECTLY ANSWERED MUST SIT OUT THE NEXT ROUND. The players may return to the round after the one they sit out.
If/when the questions are answered correctly I'll reply to the thread and announce the winner of those questions. The next clip will be posted at a random time both as a new post and in this original post. If I've yet to reply to a thread it means I'm either late or no one has gotten them right. So keep guessing until a winner is announced.
The member with the most points by midnight of September 30th, 2014 will be declared the winner and receive a small, undisclosed prize from me. Runner-up prizes will also be awarded. Scores will be updated periodically here:
Have at it.

Three point round:
1) WHAT MOVIE IS THE TRACK FROM?
2) WHAT COMPOSER DID THE PIECE?
3) WHAT SCENE IS IT FROM?
GG
MemberGiganSep-04-2014 6:49 AMOk this is really tough because i have never heard that piece in any Godzilla fights, so it must be human oriented.
Um im gonna say Godzilla vs King ghidorah.
Akira ifukube
when the cyborg is chasing them.
Im totally wrong probably.
Good grief.
The King of the Monsters
MemberMothra LarvaeSep-04-2014 7:12 AMThe only movie it sounds like this could be from is Godzilla: Final Wars, meaning the composer would have to be Keith Emerson, Daisuke Yano, or Nobuhiko Morino. I can't remember what scene it plays in though.
"When man falls into conflict with nature, monsters are born." - Professor Hayashida, The Return of Godzilla
TheGMan123
MemberTitanosaurusSep-04-2014 7:32 AMThe scene it plays in is when Gorath is coming to Earth, and Godzilla uses his Atomic Breath to try and stop it.
Gojira2K
MemberMothra LarvaeSep-04-2014 7:35 AMFor clip number 2:
1. Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla
2. I have no clue
3. When she is training (I forget her name.)
"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self." - Ernest Hemingway.
GG
MemberGiganSep-04-2014 8:25 AMGman,
Godzilla:tokyo s.o.s
Michiru Oshima
When yoshito chujo is training.
Good grief.
The King of the Monsters
MemberMothra LarvaeSep-04-2014 8:54 AMThis sounds nothing like Michiru Oshima's music. It sounds like the type of music that appears only in Final Wars. It lacks the orchestral feel of Oshima and Ifukube's music and has more of a techno-rock hybrid feel like most of the music in Final Wars. But I still can't remember what scene it is in. There is a lot of unused music in Final Wars, so maybe this is a trick question and it doesn't actually appear in the movie at all.

G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaSep-04-2014 9:10 AMOne point to The King of the Monsters for the correct movie.
Edit: I'm also going to give him another point for naming at least one out of the three composers first. It's pretty difficult to nail down the exact composer from piece to piece in this film. If someone is able to nail the exact composer of the piece down though, I'll throw him a bone and give him a point. I know this one's hard. ;)
So with that said the following two questions for Clip 2 are still in play:
2) WHAT COMPOSER DID THE PIECE?
3) WHAT SCENE IS IT FROM?
(And no worries. It's not a trick question, though admittedly quite difficult. The track is in the film.)
Gojira2K
MemberMothra LarvaeSep-04-2014 9:20 AM2) Keith Emerson, Daisuke Yano and Nobuhiko Morino
3) I got nothing.
"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self." - Ernest Hemingway.
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaSep-04-2014 9:21 AMAlso Catzilla expressed I shouldn't show the score. I'd like to hear why. Anyone else would or would not like to have everyone's scores posted and why? I'd like somewhat of a consensus on that.
Gojira2K
MemberMothra LarvaeSep-04-2014 9:28 AMI would like to have them posted, so we can see whose winning.
"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self." - Ernest Hemingway.
GG
MemberGiganSep-04-2014 9:28 AMAlright alright its from final wars ok let me see.
that piece sounds like daisuke yano, he was always one for the sad yet courageous piece.
Either him nobuhiko morino.
They both love those types of music.
I believe the scene is when they first show the GDF soldiers.
Good grief.
GG
MemberGiganSep-04-2014 10:27 AMAha, its the scene where that weird general of the xilliens and the GDF super soldier are in the same room!!
Good grief.
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaSep-04-2014 10:34 AMVague, but I'll take it. One point goes to GorillaGodzilla for naming the scene.
One more question is still in play until someone nails the exact composer:
2)WHAT COMPOSER DID THE PIECE?
Gojira2K
MemberMothra LarvaeSep-04-2014 11:11 AMKeith Emerson.
"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self." - Ernest Hemingway.
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaSep-04-2014 11:26 AMMade some minor adjustments. The latest round(s) will be posted in the original post for those who don't want to shuffle through all the pages for the latest round.
Past rounds will be posted right above it.
The King of the Monsters
MemberMothra LarvaeSep-04-2014 11:30 AMWell now that we know the scene, I'll just make a guess that it was Nobuhiko Morino, just because it doesn't seem to have enough guitar to be Emerson.
"When man falls into conflict with nature, monsters are born." - Professor Hayashida, The Return of Godzilla
G. H. (Gman)
AdminGodzillaSep-04-2014 11:35 AMAnother point to The King of the Monsters. Round complete.
